Another VPN scenario - from a newbie

Hello,
thank-you daytripper for the info in reply to my previous post, very
helpfull.

But the goalposts have moved, the company I work for currently cannot aford
server software, although I am trying to convince them to go for Win2000
Server.

Will VPN be achievable using Win2000 Pro or WinXP Pro. Would we require any
other Hardware or third party software.

Also which security software would you recommend eg Firewalls etc

I'm certain that both Win2K Pro and WinXP Pro provide both client and server
side support as I have used both versions, server and client, myself.

BUT they probably don't allow as many connections as the Server versions, so
if you need to tunnel more than one network client to a given server you may
need a bit more than the straight workstation versions.

As for firewall & rogue application protection applications, every system I
own runs ISS "RealSecure Desktop"
