SPY AXE spyware...
This thing is bad...
I get the balloon... "Your computer is infected! Windows has detected
spyware infection. It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to
prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date
antispyware for you. Click here to protect your computer from spyware."

Symptoms...
re-writes your home page to their "webpage"
puts an Icon on your desktop
porn pop ups on your desk top when idle.
It triggers the WIN security balloon warning you every 5 secs.

Don't know how to get rid of it. Windows Anti Spyware says all is perfect.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Why can't WAS Detect/Eliminate it?

Thanks in advance.

hey man i just got this thing last night. it took me about 1 hour to fix.
hers what to do for nybody that has this.
download spyware doctor (just google it, youll find it really easily)
run a scan and after the scan is done click register later and it will
display the location of all of the infected files. then all you have to do is
clean up (to get into the registry click start-run-then type "regedit") if
you cant delete 2 or 3 restart computer in safe mode ( hit f8 during startup)
then delete remaining files.

I went with Randy's solution and all seems well.
Great post! Thank you very much.

Thanks for posting back that you've had positive results with the posted fix.
Post back to *this* thread if you continue to have issues.

An MVP recommended and used anti-Spyware program, if you don't know of it
already - SpyBot Search & Destroy now targets this pest.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/updatehistory/2005-12-02.html

If interested in running SpyBot - please read the tutorial, then proceed to the
download page - note that the application must be update immediately as it
does not "ship" with the latest definition files out-of-the-box.

Regards,
