Another Upgrade Question

I did not see this specific question in previous posts, and I hope I am not
beating a dead horse, so here goes. I have been Upgrading since a Full 95
install many years ago. Everytime I go to install, it asks for "the disk" (I
forget what it says) I put in the 95 CD, and I get to continue on upgrading.

Does anyone know if I will be able to "upgrade" to Vista using 95 as my
original install CD? I was part of the Beta & release canidate, but after
RC2 crashed my dual boot I haven't bothered playing with it so I am a bit out
of the loop.

No. An upgrade to Vista using an upgrade edition DVD must be started from
the desktop of a currently running and activated XP. Windows 95 does not
qualify for upgrade pricing to Vista. Windows 2000 Professional and XP
(including XP x64) only.

Will the upgrade installer ask to see a CD (any Win CD) if it detects a
running and activated XP?

I just want to be clear for myself and probably a few others. I can use the
upgrade of Vista, to upgrade an exsisting, and validated version of XP, even
if that was originally an upgrade, that I had to put in my original 95CD to
install the upgrade. In other words since getting a Full Version of 95, I
have used only Upgrade Versions of 98, 98SE, Me & XP, and I can again use the
Upgrade Version of Vista and since my current XP is validated through
Microsoft I will be OK.
I only ask in such detail because of the projected costs of Vista, I don't
want to wind up buying the Upgrade, only to find I need the Full.

Thank you for your patience.

Yes. The installation method you used to install your genuine copy of
Windows is irrelevant. It doen's matter how many earlier upgrades there
were. As long as the XP on the hard drive is a genuine copy of Windows you
won't have any problem.

I would make an image backup of your XP installation as it is now so that if
you have to rebuild you won't need to rebuild XP. I would also make an
image backup of your hard drive once XP is upgraded to Vista.
