another undeletable folder problem

There are two directories under my "My Documents" folder that are the remnants of a folder I had in there originally. Apparently the 'puter burped and the disk was corrupted at that point where the entry for the folder was in the file index. Now there's two folders with names that have null characters in them. In the command prompt the names show strange glyphs and only show the long name at that; One of them should show the short name when I use the dir /x command. I haven't figured out what the hex values stand for in the names when I view the folders in a hex editor, but the text portion shows null. I think there are control characters in the names
I CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THESE FOLDERS
Anytime I do try I get either "invalid syntax" or "cannot find" errors. Is there a way to deal with this short of reformatting/re-installing or paying 50$ to turn on writing capabilities in the editor? (not that I want to COMPLETELY jack my system or anything
Oh yeah, I don't have access to the Recovery Console, not that it'd work anyway
Thanks

Did you try running chkdsk? If not, click "Start" then "Run", type "chkdsk
/f c:" (without the quotes, where c: is the drive you want to check). You
will probably get a message saying that the system cannot run chkdsk until
you reboot. Reboot and let chkdsk run. It may restore the corrupted files,
but you should now be able to delete them and the associated folders
manually.

didn't work. I also tried earlier with Windows "Error-check" with disk scan and the same with Fix-it Utilities, and just before I first posted I ran chkdsk /r, which is the same thing, I believe. I also tried the UnixDos utilities, which was the one program that came up when I googled POSIX, per the MS KB article on the subject
I think MS should give ME $50 for my pain and anguish. I certainly don't won't to sign up with .NET just to get this resolved (As recommended by MS' same KB article
Or should I
