Is there a different newsgroup for questions
about Microsoft Photo Editor?

There is not a specific newsgroup for Photo Editor,
but it is discussed in the microsoft office newsgroups.

Here's a tutorial that may be useful:

Thanks John. I was doing a little "smudge" work to get rid of some red eye,
and then I used the "transparency" tool to put the clear white center dot in
the eye. When I went to save the original JPEG file with the changes, I got
a message saying it couldn't save the transparency work. Result was that
the red eye was gone but the eyes look very flat. Any suggestions?

I don't know why you couldn't save the project,
maybe you need to delete your temp and
temporary internet files. Running Disk Cleanup
on a regular schedule is a good idea.

Now that you saved the other edits...maybe you
could try the transparency again.

I'm sorry, but I have no experience with Microsoft
Photo Editor. Picture It! has a *Clone* brush...
what it basically does is allow you to copy a
portion of an image and paste it somewhere
else. I use it to replace the *sparkle* in eyes.
There is almost always something white in an
image. Maybe Photo Editor has a similar tool.

Thanks, John. I think I probably need to
experiment some more.

You're welcome, and try the office.misc
newsgroup...you may find some help there.

Actually, it may be a good idea to purchase
a more advanced editing program. Microsoft
Digital Image Pro 9 is a good choice.

..jpg does not support transparency. You can save the image as .gif or .png and retain
the transparency.
