another missing history question

I have XP pro sp2 with IE7 and have read a similar post on 8-3, and it said
to enable hidden files, but I cant find where to do this.
My problem is similar, in that the history on the address bar is gone and
doesn't save. When I click on history and favorites, they seem to work ok,
just the address bar history is not working.
