I've googled groups and found a lot of same question, never an answer (that
anything worked).
Computer 1 was a Win2K machine with 2 HDD. Removed the slave as it was
awfully noisy and didn't trust it.
Replaced that slave with a slave from another Win2K machine which needs to
be parted out. The master drive with the O/S is gone so cannot run it back
in Computer 2 right now.
Computer 1 has the original master with a fresh copy of Winxp installed.
(Western Digital 15Gig).
The slave is a Maxtor (15 gig).
Both show up in Bios ok. Primary Master = Western Digitial, Primary Slave
= Maxtor. Both show up in Windows Explorer (WE). Both show in Disk
Management.
HOWEVER, the Maxtor if you click on it in WE says its not formatted. This
drive worked fine and has important data. In Disk Management I am able to
assign a drive letter. I've run Maxblaster I downloaded and it sees the
drive, but won't let me partition because there is no extra room.
In Disk Management there is no option to Import, nor an option to take
control as owner of the drive.
Ive disabled the drive and re-enabled. No go. It says the drive is
healthy. I cannot do a dir of the drive via DOS either. I've chosen the
re-scan option in Disk Management.
Ran the diskpart via cmd (searching foreign in disk management help)
If I didn't need the data, I'd just scrap the whole drive, but that's the
issue, I need to reach the data.
One option perhaps???? When I get a new master for the 2nd machine, I can
load win2K on it first and then take this drive and install it??? Then get
my data off and load winxp??
