This is quite interesting-until this week MS Encarta's nineMSN site was
free-now you have to pay just to access it. Sad, isn't it-one of the well
known PC enycyclopeadia site goes payware.

Yahoo sports radio is going that way for the upcoming college football
season. Lots of unhappy college football fans out there.

In another group I follow, it was noted that the new edition of the
Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary is to be restricted to paid-for
access -- although the existing (and thus outdated) one will remain
available free.

Definitely a pattern appearing.

Ditto the NFL. Streaming game broadcasts, which used to be free
through NFL.com, are available this year only by subscription through
Real Networks.

The Weather Channel is also offering a paid service. For about $15 a year,
you can get the same information as on the free webpage except minus ads.
There a few extras but hardly worth the money imho.

I got the impression that radar video wasn't available in
the freeware version, which is what I am most interested in.
So I didn't DL the free setup. I could also picture getting
a butt load of spyware to deliver the ads, but maybe not.
