The first post deals with a manual method. Further down the page there
is a " Fully automated fix for XP home or Windows 2000 users "

Feedback is appreciated ;)

Bob,

Have you attempted to utilize the Change/Update function from Add/Remove
Programs in the Control Panel? Which Symantec product(s) is(are)
installed ?
If nothing else resolves the install error suggest downloading the
latest build again (1.0.509).
Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove all installation
configuration settings for MWAS.

Then reinstall MWAS to it's former location or the Default location,
whichever the case may be.

I too did not find any of these alternativesto solve my
problem. I should mention however that the 101 error I get
is after the install, but on any attempt to open MWAS. TIA.

Hi Steve,

I've came across your post after trying to install
Microsoft Antispyware for a friend, and receiving\
error 101 one the initial run.

I Followed the 'manual' solution to the exact letter -
this solved the problem completely.

Thanks!
