Another defrag query

I am new to XP. After having my computer for 3 weeks, I checked
defrg/analyze and it said I needed to do it.

I did.

But, at the end, it said that it was unable to defrag 2 of my files. The
rest, I guess, worked fine and I am having no computer problems whatsoever.

But, should I be concerned about this issue? Or, is this typical?

Hi Mel

Depending on which files couldn't be defragged, you may have no need to worry. The following is an exclusion list of those files that aren't defragmented.

Bootsec.dos
Safeboot.fs
Safeboot.csv
Safeboot.rsv
Hiberfil.sys
Memory.dmp
Pagefile.sys

In addition to Will's advice, DEFRAG may not be able to defragment a file if
its in use by the operating system or a program.

Dear Mel,

There are many reasons why some files are not defragmented.
If your File system( An index at the beginning tracks of the disk which
stores the address of all files, softwares on the disk for the OS to find
it) is in NTFS (NT[New Technology] File System), when files are open, NTFS
creates fragments in the free space and thus the defragntfs will not be able
to defragment these files. In FAT32 and NTFS, when softwares are running in
background(such as in the taskbar), like Norton Internet Security,
Antiviruses...etc, it is also likely that these applications won't be
defragmented.
....and so on.
So, this is perfectly normal that some files cannot be defragmented.
