Another Bar Graph Question

In all but one of my bar graphs in PPT 2003, I see faint gridmark lines
coming from the y axis when I'm in slideshow mode. I haven't tried this yet
with a projector, but I assume they'll show up. I don't see these lines when
in normal mode. I've compared the settings with the slide that doesn't show
these lines, and I can't see any difference. The animation is the same for
all of the bar graphs. Do you have any suggestions?

Try Chart|Chart Options and see if anything is selected on the Gridlines
tab. My guess is you have gridlines showing, but the line thickness is much
less than 1 pt -- which may make them difficult to select on the chart
itself. (Usually you can right-click a gridline and choose "clear" or Format
Gridline.)

Or there's a dropdown box on the toolbar that lists all the chart parts. See
if Value Axis <major or minor> Gridline is on that list. If so, you can
select them there and choose Format|Selected Gridlines from the Format menu
and change the thickness or color there.

Yes, I did have major gridlines checked and unchecking solved the problem!
The reason I hadn't realized that was an issue was because it was also
checked on the one graph that didn't show the gridlines. Do you know why
that is?

Also, I don't see a dropdown box on my toolbar. Maybe I removed it at one
time. Can you tell me what it's called so that I can add it back? Thanks for
your help.

I suspect that those gridlines were set to the same color as the plot area
of the chart, so, even though they were really there, they just didn't show
up.

It's a box on the Standard toolbar when you've activated a chart -- it's
called "Chart Objects" when you hover your mouse over it. It's next to the
zoom percentage here (and I use the default settings here -- in fact, I'm
not really even sure you can customize these toolbars). If you click inside
the corner of the chart, it will say "Chart Area." Or try clicking the Y
axis -- if you're using a column chart, you'll see "Value Axis" on the
toolbar. The X axis would be "Category Axis." Click the arrow next to it to
open the dropdown.
