I have some fairly large presentation with like 4 full songs in them running
across the slides (slide shows). I have used powerlink Pro and made an
autro run CD. I also tested it on pp97 viewer prior to burning it. All
worked fine.

I then tested on my mainframe at home. worked great. Tested on my lap top.
Worked just fine. I then took it to another lap top and it got 1/2 through
the program and then it dropped the last two songs. However the slides
continued to advance. I then rebooted that second machine and started over.
It then dropped the last three songs.

My main fram OS is windows Professional XP. My lap top is windows ME and
the second laptop is XP. All computers had PPT 2002 but this should matter
since it was being viewed with PP97 viewer.

Any ideas what this might be. There were no error messages etc. If the RAM
is filled would this cause a song to get dropped??

Any help appreciated.

The presentation was also just tested on another main frame that had more
RAM than the other laptop did. It appears that it is a RAM issue..

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Where songs won't play if the RAM
gets full?

The performance of a presentation running from a CD, or a hard drive, will
be impacted by the available resources. Which ones? Hard to tell because
it could be a combination of memory available, Temp space available,
fragmented hard drive, and CD drive speed. Although it could be a memory
issue on the laptop, I would check to see if the Temp folder is full (clean
it out if it is), if the hard drive is fragmented (do a defrag if it is),
and whether other demanding software is running in the background, such as a
anti-virus program (turn if off temporarily). If all of that looks good and
the problem persists, then it is possibly the speed of the processor or the
speed of the CD drive. Is it by chance an external USB CD drive?

Thanks Sonia.. Sorta thought that they were some of the issues that could
be happening but wanted to hear it from the "professionals" VBG. It wasn't
an external drive. It wasn't my laptop so the temp folder probably was
full, it probably hadn't been defragmented. I looked and it didn't seem
like he had alot of stuff runnining in the background. Well At least I know
it isn't me ;-) Since it worked on another computer not associated with
mine at all.
