Monday morn

We have 2 98se comps and 1 w2k comp connected to a linksys DSL/Cable router.

With all 3 connected, all have internet access.

The w2k comp can "see" and access the 2 98s.

Network Neighborhood: The 98s do not see the others, and DO NOT see
themselves.

==============================

I disconnect the w2k comp, reboot the 98s and they see themselves and each
other, and have internet access.

==============================

The 98s "log on" as their computer names: office1, main.

I have enabled the guest account on the 2k comp
I have added these names as users on the 2k comp, added them to the
administrators, users, and guests groups.

I have created new shares on the wk2 comp.

I do not understand why the 98 comps do not see themselves when connected.

(I read in another thread: letter case matters for name of workgroup. 'Tis
true?)

Guidence please.

Got File- and printersharing loaded on all computers? Are they all in the
same workgroup (and yes, caps make a difference)? Got all useraccounts
existing on the W2K?

Thank you for your response.

Yes. >> I disconnect the w2k comp, reboot the 98s and they see themselves
and each
(and yes, caps make a difference)?
I will check this.

But why do the 98 comps stop seeing themselves when the 2k box is connected.

Monday afternoon

I "adjusted" the case of the workgroup name on the 98 comps.
(The 2k comp uses uppercase only.) And rebooted the 98 comps.

No difference.

The w2k comp can "see" and access the 2 98 comps.
BUT: The 98s do not see the others, and DO NOT see themselves.

If the 2k comp is off, the 98s see themselves and each other.

I need some help.

Thank you for your reply.

I am not at that office currently.

However:
The IPs are assigned by the router starting with 192.168.1.100, submask
255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1.

Ping finds each from each other.

Could this be a "Browse Master" issue? I will set the 98s to not be
masters.

Another complication: The w2k comp is not used everyday. So it is not on
most of the time.

I will test some more over the weekend.

I disabled browse master on the main 98 computer. No difference: when the
w2k comp is booted it stops all of the 98 comps from seeing themselves and
all other comps.

Is Netbios over TCP/IP enabled on all computers?
Can you give us the ipconfig/all from all computers?

Thank you for your questions.

Yes

Can you give us the ipconfig/all from all computers?

I will check this when I next visit that office.

But: ipconfig lists what each should:
IP address : 192.168.1.xxx
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Any idea why the 98 comps cannot see themselves when the 2k box is on?

J

Hi Jesse,

Do check the ipconfigs. I assume the 192.168.1.1 is the router-IP?
Check the eventlogs of the W2K to see if something turns up there.
