I have a new puzzling icon on my desktop that I can't
explain and can't get rid of. It won't delete. If I try
to open it to see what it is, it tells me I don't have a
program that will do so. If I look at its properties it
contains no information whatsoever. I've scanned for
viruses and been found all clear, so that isn't it.
It looks like a page with a corner turned down and
its "name" is ~. (Yes that little symbol)
Any ideas?

This ~ is a side affect of a badly written Microsoft
hotfix! (windows update) Which one I can't remember right
now. And I believe it has something to do with your
address book. From what I've read about it, it is nothing
to worry about. I'm sure that Microsoft will have a fix
for their fix sometime down the road.

Thanks so much. I worry. Ha!

It's generated by outlook express. You should be able to
drag it to the recycle bin but it will probably just come
back when you make changes to your address book. The
little symbol is called a "tilde", pronoounced till-dee
