Annoying time marker on the timeline

The TIMELINE has an annoying black insert marker and dialogue box with times
in it. It appears after a while, and gets in the way of my view of the
timeline and serves no purpose. It won't go away and there's no info online.
How do I get rid of it?

The Playback Indicator (vertical line) and the
Tool Tips (dialog boxes) are useful when
editing a video clip and cannot be disabled.
