Greetings Everybody,

Seems that I've had this minor annoyance from day one but since I haven't
been able to figure it out in two years I'll finally ask for some help.

You see, I am running XP Home Edition SP1 on a Dell Dimension 4300 and about
every few minutes or so (never timed it) my PC "refreshes" itself. Like you
can just be looking at the desktop background and all of a sudden the
shortcut icons disappear for a second or so then reappear. But the main
annoyance of this is when you are into something like a folder full of
pictures and you are scrolling down looking at the thumbnails for an image
and then all of a sudden it refreshes on you making you lose your place as
the folder starts back at the top. It's just like pressing the F5 key only
it does it on it's own. And this never seems to happen, at least visually,
while in a program like a Web browser or Outlook Express or any other
program for that matter. Only happens with the desktop or viewing the PC's
folders.

Any ideas why?

Thanks in advance for any help.

My main guess is that in your startup, you have "refresh". I haven't figured
out why some machines have it there or what it represents other than the
nuisance value that you have mentioned. Go to start button then run and type
msconfig and hit enter. Go to startup tab and have a look at what is
starting up. If REFRESH is in there, take the tick out and reboot and check
out if it has stopped.

If that fails, it could well be spyware so go to www.lavasoft.de and
download Adaware and www.eon.net.au and download Spybot. Install both and
run both to get rid of any spyware.
