Hi Rick,
Thanks for the help.
Unfortunately neither of your suggestions worked for me.
I checked the KB article, I do not have a HP printer or a
corrupt registry hive, at least I don't think so! Is
there a registry tweak to turn off chkdisk for a drive? I
first noticed this problem after I attempted to overclock
my processor more than I usually do! The weather was very
hot and the system overheated. I have had this problem
ever since.
The accessing the floppy drive on start up for no apparent
reason is also still a mystery. Not only did I disable my
AV software (Norton) but all start up items using system
mechanic. Cleared my recent documents, even though none
of them pointed to anything on the floppy drive and still
it grinds away until I stick a disk in to shut it up! I
would really like to resolve this issue without having to
do an 'inplace upgrade' and then have to reinstall all the
MS patches and SP1a again!
Any more ideas???
Cheers
Matthew

Dear All,
I am using WinXP Pro aver the last week or two strange
problems have developed.
1) Everytime the machine starts it preforms a chkdisk on
my secondary hard drive, and finds no problems. I make
sure the machine is shut down properly but still get the
problem.
