Does anyone know what program causes Xp to open the
system 32 folder when my computer is booted? It started
a few weeks ago and I have been unable to resolve the
issue. Everything boots appropriately, but Xp always
opens that folder. Thanks for your help.

Usually this is due to a reference for a startup item that is not written
properly. Missing quotes (one or both) from a path with long file name or
spaces in the path. Windows follows the path as far as it can go. Then
opens Explorer to the folder where it had to stop.

Example:
"C:\Windows\System32\This Startup Item.exe
should be
"C:\Windows\System32\This Startup Item.exe"

Use Start>Run> MSCONFIG or System Information> Software Environment>
Startup Group to review the paths for your startup items. Locate the item
(usually in one of the RUN keys of the registry) and edit the path.
