Ever since installing Vista I am getting annoying ads popping up every so
often when I am not even using my browser. I have scanned my computer with
spyware detection software but none was found. Does anyone know how to stop
this?

Try scanning with more than one spyware detection app. Often times one
app will catch adware when another won't,

Look thru your startup programs to see if you have one you don't recognise.
Look thru your program or program (86) to see if you have one you don't
recognise. Then you can also look in installed programs for the same.
Smells like adware.

That's really bad advice. I had a customer go through their server one
time, afraid they had a hacker accessing them remotely. They removed
everything they could find that said "remote" and disabled every service
that said remote. It took 12 hours on the phone with 4 different Microsoft
groups to fix the problems.

If you have adware, get two or three different anti-spyware/adware programs
and run them on your PC. If that doesn't clear it up, backup your data,
format the drive, and start over.

For my customers, I skip the anti-spyware post-infection, and just wipe the
drive and start over. Too many anti-spyware companies have sold out to one
or more spyware vendors.

Just remember to allow for the time it will take to get thru the phone
activation filter..
