I originally posted this message in the "Word" section of
this Support area, but have received no answer so far.
This problem appears to relate to Windows 2k, however.
I recently moved my Word97 from a Windows 98 operating
system to a Windows 2000 Server platform. This problem
did not exist on the old platform, so I suspect it is
platform related.
I have associated a number of file extensions for various
text files to be opened in Word. When I double-click or
use the right mouse click and select "Open" on these
files, I get a "Do you want to revert to the saved
xxx.xx'?" message. Once I select yes or no, I am able to
make my modifications and save it as normal. This doesn't
happen if I double-click on a .doc file, or do a right
mouse click and select "Edit" on any text file associated
with Word. It's not a major problem, but it is annoying.
I might add that these files do not show the normal Word
icon next to them in Explorer. The Icon shows a document
with an 'A' in the lower left corner. In the Folder
Options of the File Types tab, however, the Icon clearly
displays the Word icon.
