Annoying dial-up box

How do I stop that annoying dial-up box from appearing. It used not to. I
was quite happy just clicking settings - connection and dial. Now I get this
blasted dial-up box appearing all the time when I'm not dialled in. How do I
get rid of it - permanently?

Suspect applications that access the Net to update automatically, or
report info, such as Real Audio, Windows Updates, etc. Look for shortcuts
to them in the START|ALL PROGRAMS|START UP folder. Also look in START|RUN
|(type the word) msconfig|START UP tab

Also open the PROPERTIES or OPTIONS dialog in the applications themselves,
where Net access can be limited.

Scan your system for 'intruders', using one or both of these utils...
