Annoying CONSTANT (mshtml.dll) Error & CRASHING

For months now I continue to receive this error whenever it feels like it.
MOST of the time it is when I am doing or using more than 1 application at a
time. For example, I could be logging into my AOL accout (using AOL program)
while surfing the internet or logging into eBay, etc. That's when it is most
common. The Windows Explorer window that pops up says:

"Error Signature"

In any case, it feezes my computer after drwatson sends out two reports (it
is always 2). Or, perhaps it is the drwatson that is doing the
freezing/crashing since the ONLY way I can unfreeze my computer is by using
Ctrl/Alt/Delete and ending task on drwatsn.exe

Of course, when I do that, the screen flickers and things get rearranged,
end up missing, etc., until I reboot and wait for the next time.

Does ANYONE have ANY idea how to shake this?

My operating system is WindowsXP SP2. I am using a Sony Vaio Desktop with a
P4 3GHz, and 2G's of RAM. I have 750 G's of disk space. I have no viruses or
even spyware, etc. All temp folders are clean and clear, along will all
cache(s), prefetch, etc. Everything runs optimum except for my case fan
running a little slow, but is going to be replaced when the new fan gets
here. As far as I know, I do not even have any registry errors as I have a
program that cleans my registry every so often. (Don't worry, I check the
things it wants to delete/clean before initiating the "clean" or "delete"
process).

My browser is IE Version 7.0.5730.11 with all of the latest updates.. I
receive no other errors on my computer except for the one I previously
mentioned.

I did a search on my computer for the mshtml.dll file and so far I have
THIRTY-TWO (32) files - does this sound normal??

Also, If I have IE version 7.0.5730.11, should my mshtml.dll version be the
SAME?

PLEASE, if ANYONE knows a way to fix this ongoing problem it would be
greatly appreciated! Thank you.
 
For the Event Viewer error report please prove the Event ID: and the
Event Source:

A better way to post Event Viewer reports.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

There are 4 "events" for my error, but this is the MAIN event that triggers
everything. Is this what you wanted me to copy and paste here?

Yes but the second part beginning "For more information" is not needed.

Is this the first indication there is a problem? Is there a matching
Event ID: 1001. If yes a copy might add something.

The problem may be the result of crappy AOL software. Have you installed
AOL software from a CD? Do you have the latest AOL software? Are you
using AOL software because AOL is your ISP?

Yes, the AOL software is from a CD. Yes, it is the latest, most up to date
version (AOL 9.1 Revision 4334.34). No, AOL is not my ISP.

Unfortunately the extra Event Viewer Report does not take us forward.

Perhaps I should explain my negative feelings about AOL software. For
years they sought customers by including their CD's with computer
magazines. These CDs were branded versions of Internet Explorer. The
branding made it difficult for someone familiar with Internet Explorer
to help someone using the AOL version. The AOL version did little or
nothing that was not available with the standard version of Internet
Explorer (AOL may dispute my version of the situation). Often these
branded versions contained out of date Microsoft components, which would
generate errors and the cause was difficult to diagnose. Six months ago
my gardener bought a brand new Vista computer and was provided with the
latest AOL CD. The connection to the internet would not work. The AOL
software was out of date.

I have used Google to see what is being said about AOL 9.1. Some
customers are making quite disparaging remarks and alleging bugs in the
software. You will always find comments of this sort, which are
misinformed and to be taken with a pinch of salt. However, knowing the
past situation with AOL there may well be problems with the latest
software. Given that your problems seem to be most common when using AOL
software I would uninstall the software through Add / Remove Programs to
see whether the crashes still occur. You have the CD so you can always
reinstall. Sometimes in the past removing AOL software has caused
problems so take care. We may need to repair the system if that occurs.

As it turns out, I actually uninstalled my previous 9.1 software, and
reinstalled a newer version by downloading it from AOL's website. I have had
this problem since before that occurred.

Also, when I upgraded to IE7, I did it directly from Microsoft's website.

Does any of this make a difference?

Someone suggested I replace my current mshtml.dll file in my System32 folder
with a more updated version. Of course, I would only replace the one located
there (if you recall, I have something like 32 mshtml.dll files in my
computer presently).

???

Whenever I install AOL or similiar, I always use custom install and try to
install as little as possible.

mshtml.dll is in your system32 folder and a protected folder, which
means that if there is an authorised change the replacement is
automatically replaced by the system.

Are you able to isolate the problem to one which only occurs when you
are using AOL software? In Internet Explorer 7 you can select Tools,
Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons. If you get the error when AOL
is disabled then your problem is not with AOL software.

As suspected, I do not have AOL listed under manage Add-ons (in any
category/drop-down menu).

However, I can not recall a time when my system crashed with this annoying
error when AOL was not loaded & signed-in. That doesn't mean, however, that
is has not happened when AOL was not loaded, I just seem to only remember the
crash taking place while AOL was loaded and signed in).

Follow-up to last post: The computer does not freeze/crash until AFTER I
have "ok'd" both error reports. Then it freezes until I Ctrl/Alt/Delete and
end task on drwatsn.exe. After that, computer will run again (after black
screen and flickering - and losing icons next to clock).

I have inadvertently tested the drwatson prgram by observing other errors
that occur. So far, I've only had to end task on the drwatsn application for
only THIS particular error. Other errors just present the error reporting
window, I report it, & all is finished.
