I don't know if this is a new problem or not, because I have only recently become so stingy with my electricity use.

If I power up my computer, and the printer isn't powered up until after the PC is, I cannot print. It says there is an error with printing.

When this happens, I must reboot the computer with the printer already powered on.

Is this really the way it's supposed to be, or can someone tell me how to fix this annoyance? Seems to me, I used to leave my printer off, and if I turned it on while Windows was running, it would print just fine.

Thank you..

It has occurred to me that this may have started happening just after I switched out a faulty power supply for a good one. Could this problem be because I missed hooking power to something or because another cable became loose or disconnected during my "surgery"?

I guess it should be obvious, but I'm just talking about a local parallel port printer with no network involved. Windows 2000 Pro.

Thanks,

Martha

Naah.. changing the power supply could not have affected this.

One thing to try:

power up the computer with the printer off
go to Device Manager
is the printer listed?
if so, does it have a problem?
when you are ready to print, turn on the printer
go to Device Manager
if the printer was not listed, is it now?
if it was listed and had a problem, does it still?
right-click on My Computer in Device Manger
select Scan For Hardware Changes
if the printer was not listed, is it now?
if it was listed and had a problem, does it still?
