Annoyances in Vista

Annoyances
1) Rename a file and you lose track of it due to the automatic sorting
feature. In XP you controlled this behavior by hitting F5. Words
cannot describe my frustration over this!
2) Quite often when you Alt+Tab to an Explorer window, the focus is
gone and you must click the file area to be able to navigate with the
keyboard. Improvements please!
3) The "Burn"-button and its friends cannot be removed. This is a
travesty!
4) The new column-filter thingy is cool sometimes, but it should be
possible to turn it off!
5) The new remaining feature is good, but it should be easier to
select the file extension if wanted. I'd suggest hitting F2 a second
time should select the entire filename. Where's the creativity?
6) When you open a folder the first file should be selected. Total
Commander has done this correctly for years now. They never learn at
MS?
7) The path found in the address field cannot be dragged and dropped,
as in XP. This feature is especially useful when copying paths to a
command prompt... sigh!
8) <Backspace> changed behavior from "up" to "back". Annoying, but OK
since "Alt+Up" does what you want.
9) This stupid "Grade" column tends to pop up everywhere I have source
code files.
 
I also have a few grievances with the Vista GUI, which has a few problems,
but they are different than what you have written.

Actually, you can still do this - it's just that the CMD prompt in Vista
cannot have anything dragged onto it.

You could use Console2, which is a tabbed wrapper for CMD, Powershell,
Cygwin, et al. You can have different tabs for different shells, make
keyboard shortcuts, like CTRL+V for Paste, and even stuff like window
transparency and picture backgrounds. I get rid of the toolbar and menu
bar, as I do not use them, and I think it looks better without. It's much
better than the plain CMD prompt, and you can drag files/folders onto it.

If you are using Vista x64 there is a special x64 build that you need to use
instead, although the current build seems to have a display problem on
Win2008, but there is a workaround.

BTW, you can also copy paths of files and folders in Vista by right clicking
them with the SHIFT key pressed, to get the extra context menu entries.

After 2 1/2 years on the market I doubt that Microsoft will change this to
your liking. It is even too late for inclusion with Windows 7. But if you
hurry you can submit your suggestions for consideration in the O/S that
replaces Windows 7.

I forgot one of my favorite bugs:

In XP, you can press <Ctrl> and double-click a folder (or use the
<enter> key) to open it in a new window. Something like "I want to
open this and check it later, just like I surf the web...". (Same goes
for the "UP"-button in the toolbar.)

In Vista, <Ctrl> is ignored.

To me, this function is vital. I'll stick to XP until this is fixed.
Hah, no more dollars for you Microsoft! :P

Try right-click-Open. That opens in a NEW window. Didn't look very hard, did
you?

OTOH, if you right click on the folder name and Ctrl-click on Open in the
context menu, you get a new window.

I have to thank you for making me learn that by experiment. Now all I have
to do is remember to use it :-)

BTW, I *am* running Vista - but I didn't even know about your trick in XP.
 
i need help if anyone can? I just bought a headset with mic and
installed it. I can hear my friends on the guild, but it wont let me
talk back to them. what do I do help me please:D

Make sure the mike is not set to "mute" .
