I am pleased to announce the release of j4copy v0.7. This is a major
release.
j4copy is basically a tool to copy files from one location to another,
with currently three modes: simple copy, ZIP archive, and
synchronization. It also features cycling backup for previous versions
of overwritten files.
It was designed to be simple, in order to be reliable and hopefully
without bugs.
Typical uses of j4copy are (on any platform supporting Sun JVM 1.4+):
- backup files to another (usually network) drive
- archive files to ZIP file
- synchronize files between laptop and network drive
Its main advantage over other dedicated copy tools is portability, since
it is fully based on Java.
I wrote this tool because I was fed-up playing with little scripts
(.bat, .sh, ...) to do some poorly-featured backups or synchronizations.
Changes from v0.6:
- j4copy now has a GUI (graphical user interface) in addition to CLI
(command line interface)
- Improved flexibility in XML and DTD files location
- Added differential option (close to incremental)
Next release will improve GUI to run files (not only edit them).
j4copy is free for non-commercial use. The downloadable version has no
time or feature restriction, and no ads or spyware.
