John H. here - I just did an overhaul of the Best of Free Software site
- www.jhoodsoft.org Utilities are now split into regular desktop and
Repair Utils. Considering the size of the Media page. I will soon
have to do that too.

As with any "Best of", you may not agree with the selections, but not
seen anything there that isn't freeware and good.

I'd disagree with the "Windows does this" rejection of Gadwin
Printscreen...
Windows "Printscreen" does nothing more than dump a raw copy of the
screen into the clipboard.

On the other hand, if you have Irfanview, THAT can capture a screen,
and view/edit (minimally edit), or save it directly.

There are several Printscreen alternative, precisely because the
Windows way is completely half-baked.

Matt:

Yeah, we may go around and around about this. Tell you what. I'll
Re-eval Gadwin and go from there, how is that?

"No kidding."

Is it the "best of" though?

I used to have Printkey 5.1 installed on any machine I wanted to
screengrab, so I never got round to GadWin.

The other strong contender is MWSnap.
- so if you want a shootout for "Best", those 3 (Printkey is a "last
freeware version") are what I would call the strongest contenders

To be honest though, now I tend to use Irfanview to do the task, or If
I've forgotten to load it first, a normal Windows screengrab and then
chuck it into Irfanview to crop & save.
- So actually, Irfanview does this, is probably more accurate

With 14 Icons already in the tray, I try to avoid collecting any more!

Ok, a three way shootout between the top three screenshot tools. I'll
Post the results.

Son of a gun. I've been using Irfanview for years, and I just learned
something new.

I'v been using MWSnap, which is great for selecting any portion of the
screen.
