I installed AntiSpywear on my notebook and it worked fine until my beta
expired. I downloaded the new version, told it to start on Windows start. It
doesn't show in the task bar and the only way to get it to work is load the
program. I have removed it twice and reinstalled it to no avail. What should
I do next?

I have done all listed here, no spywear, no virus, but the program does all
scheduled scans and upgraders. In the settings it says that active protection
is on and working. Just the icon in taskbar doesn't show.

Hi joel,

Did you uninstall other software in the recent past? This can be a source
of loss of a "common" program.

I have not uninstalled any software on that computer ever. Real strange that
it functions but the task bar icon is the only thing missing.

Hello joelw135,

try this:

Goto: Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs/MSAS
then click on support info!!!
Then click on repair!

If that wont work then it is really a XP problem,

I give a workaround for all th missing things in the systray:
Go to:
C:\Windows\system32\
and look for systray.exe, right click on it and make a shortcut
from it, then move the shortcut to the common startup folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\

Restart the computer.

I know what Joel is talking about. My pc does the same thing sometimes. I have
windows xp , sp2. When I start my computer and loge onto my desktop, the
first
time I loge on only some of my icon trey shortcuts from start up menu will
load
properly. When this happens, I loge off, but not shutdown, only to the desktop
icon. then I load my desktop a second time, and every one of my icon shortcuts
in my system trey will appear. This is a windows xp issue.

Hello Diana,

did you try the workaround you reply to?

I wasn't suggesting a work around. I was just explaining that I have the same
problem on my pc, as joel is describing, and how I fix the problem. Did you
missunderstand what I said, if so , I'm sorry. I was simply saying that the
problem is in windows xp

Hello Diana,

yes I understand what you where saying but you say it in this reply to
that you have the same problem! So I ask try the workaround I suggested.
And let me now of it work for you.

I give a workaround for all the missing things in the systray:
Go to:
C:\Windows\system32\
and look for systray.exe, right click on it and make a shortcut

Sorry, I missunderstood. No, I haven't tried the work around, yet, But I will.
Thanks, When finished, I will post tp let you know the outcome.

Hi Tom,
I tryed the workaround. MSAS is working fine, and nothing changed on my
desktop.
It is a Windows XP problem. MSAS is definately not the cause of the problem.
Thanks for your patience and help, it's appreciated.

Hello Diana,

thanks you for trying, I had also missing things in the systray also
MSAS every login the are now all there, but now sometimes MSAS with 2
icons! ;) I read the trick in some Dutch Pc magazine and it workt for me.

We all learning! ;)

I had the same exact circumstance and same problem as joelw135...

After trying the proposed solution, I did see that the SpyWare utility was
in fact loaded and operational, however, after a reboot of the system the
problem reappeared.

So... any other suggestions?

Hello Cursor,

From Francesco Saverio Ostuni:
Go to My Network Places and on the left pane and choose to hide UPnP
devices.

This will do the trick.

Thank you Tom for the tip - I am now "cautiously optimistic" as after I
rebooted a couple of times, I see AntiSpywear has loaded successfully each
time. I am curious however, what does the UpNP Framework have to with the
AntiSpywear software?

Hello Cursor,

it is a XP problem, so it works for all missing icons in the systray.
