Anitspyware will not update ?

Downloaded to an XP service pack 1 machine and the anti-
spyware says it can not find any internet connection
although I am able to surf and use other online ap's

One of the possibilities is the firewall blocking the access to the Internet
for the MSAS processes, second one is the Internet Explorer set to work
off-line (IE-> menu File)
