Is there a way to stop the animations on some web sites. I find them very
annoying. Don't want to shut them off just be able to control them. Is
there a program or something that will do that ?

Depends of the type of animations. There are two kinds you will encounter on
the web. Animated GIF's and Shockwave Flash. To stop animated GIF's you can
simply hit the ESC key after the page is loaded. To permanently disable
animated GIF's in IE select Tools>Internet Options...>Advanced>Multimedia
and deselect "Play animations in web sites".

As for Flash there is no easy way to disable this short of uninstalling
Flash which will make some sites unusable. I personally use Avant Browser
with is a shell for IE that includes a Flash blocker as one of it's many
features. It also does tabbed browsing and lots of other great things. It's
definitely worth a look and won't affect any of your IE settings. You can
get it here <http://www.avantbrowser.com/> for free and doesn't including
any malware.

Hi Dan :-)

In addition to what Fuzzy Logic provided, you can also install
SpywareBlaster, which is a highly recommended program for your system
anyway, and it has a Flash Killer you can set that will permanently
eliminate Flash animation.

However, be aware that you may visit some sites that require Flash in order
for their website to function properly.

You can read the information and download the program here:

Hope this helps.

In addition to Fuzzy and Jan's posts, here are some tools that will allow
you to control Flash animations on web pages - making them easy to turn on
and off as needed:

Flash Toggler -
http://download.softpedia.ro/software/OS ENHANCE/SetupFlashToggler.exe -
puts an icon in your systray to enable/disable flash with a click. (Sorry -
author's site has been down awhile, had to find this via another source)
TurnFlash - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/tflash2.html
Flash and Pics Control -
http://www.unhsolutions.com/Flash-and-Pics-Control/index.html - also
disables images on a site for even faster downloading.
FlashSwitch - http://www.flashswitch.com/
