Using Win 98SE, PP 200

Have one animation that has been used numerous times. Today it fails to work AFTER Pack & Go is run and unpacked
I've deleted it and added it several times. Adding it from the .PPS folder. Any ideas on on how to correct the problem
Thank you.........

JB

JB,

What is the specific animation that doesn't work. And when you unpack are
you running it on the same system? One work around in the short term would
be to move it as a pps and use the new viewer?

I don't really understand what you mean by moving it as a pps and using the viewer. It is a typist.gif (have added typing sound which works). The typist animation and sound are both in the folder with the PPS file. The .gif does work while
in PP and using the "Play Show", but it does not work after using Pack & Go.

Using PP 2002, and I was under the impression that it used animations.

You're choosing to include the Viewer when you Pack and Go, right?

PPT 2002's Pack and Go doesn't have the capability to select the newest
PPT Viewer to use, so it uses the old Viewer. The old Viewer doesn't
support animated gifs or other, newer animations and transitions which
are in PPT 2002.

So, when you Pack and Go to gather all your files together, select the
option to *not* include the Viewer.

Then download and install the new PPT Viewer (Glen gave you a link).
Copy the 7 files it creates over to the same folder where you unpacked
the Pack and Go. Then copy *all* the contents of the Pack and Go file to
the CD or wherever you're moving the presentation to.

Yes, it does. But Pack and Go is using the old PPT Viewer.

Hi JB

I have a feeling that this file may have become
unstable/damaged. Try this:

Open Powerpoint and just have one blank presentation open.
Insert>Slides from files
Browse to the file and click on it ONCE
Then click on "Insert All" - MAKE SURE that the setting
to keep source formatting is ticked!
This should take all the slides and insert them into your
blank file.
Then test it - that should now work.

Many thanks

CJ

Does the New viewer support Win98 ED which is what I'm using

No, the new Viewer works on Win98 SE.

If you're stuck using the old Viewer because of the old operating system,
then you're stuck with your animations not animating. Sorry.

In PPT, you can go to Tools/Options and turn off the new animations and
transitions so you're not tempted to use them. That will effectively take
you back to "PPT 2000 mode" while you create your presentation, and the
animations used there should show up with the old Viewer. Note that things
like picture bullets, numbered bullets, and animated GIFs still won't run in
the old Viewer, though.

http://www.soniacoleman.com/FAQs/FAQ00021.htm has a full list of what the
old Viewer (the 97 Viewer) won't do.

Have downloaded the Windows Installer for Win 98. There are three folders. The first folde
has 8 icons, 2nd folder has 1 icon - Application, 3rd folder has 1 icon - SC_Reader_DTXico
You said to "copy 7 files". Could it be 8 files instead of 7. I'm novice when it comes t
computers, and I really appreciate your help

Hi,

If you have multiple folders, it sounds like you are running the old viewer,
of 97 vintage.

Like Echo, I get only 7 files. If you go to the link and download the new
viewer, it should install itself into a folder with 7 objects:

PPTVIEW.EXE
SAEXT.DLL
PVREADME.HTM
INTLDATE.DLL
GDIPLUS.DLL
PPVWINTL.DLL
UNICOWS.DLL

For me, these are located under:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\PowerPoint Viewer

This is the link you need to go to that will install the new version of the
viewer is:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...27-43ab-4f24-90b7-a94784af71a4&DisplayLang=en

You download it, run it, and then look for the folder with the 7 files.

No, the 7 files are what the PPT Viewer installs, not what the Installer
installs.

Let's get through the Installer installation before you worry about the
Viewer installation.

First go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=CEBBACD8-C094-4255-B702-DE3BB768148F
to download the Installer files you need. There are 3 listed at the
bottom of that page:

1. InstMsiA.exe
2. License.txt
3. Redist.txt

It would be a good idea to download all three of those files and read
the two TXT files (using notepad or Word), but it's really not
necessary. What you really need to do is download InstMsiA.exe to your
harddrive, then double-click it to install. Follow any prompts you get
as it installs.

After the Installer installs, don't worry about the individual
files/folders it creates. What you need to do now is download and
install the new PPT Viewer from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...27-43ab-4f24-90b7-a94784af71a4&DisplayLang=en

Download the ppviewer.exe file from that page, save it to your harddrive
in someplace you can find easily later, and then follow double-click the
ppviewer.exe file and let the Viewer install. Follow any prompts you get
as it installs.

After the Viewer has installed, you should be able to find 7 files on
your computer.

gdiplus.dll
intldate.dll
pptview.exe
ppvwintl.dll
pvreadme.htm
saext.dll
unicows.dll

Those are the 7 files you're looking for.

Does that make sense?

I agree - let's get through the Installer first. Downloaded the Installer, and when I clicked on the .exe to install a
message come up "The specified service already exists". I have no idea where those files are located or how to locate
them. Went to 'Find', typed in InstMsiA.exe and it only showed the one I just downloaded. Where do I go from here?

JB

After you gave me the file names using 'Find" all 7 files are located at Microsoft Office>Powerpoint Viewer
Whee! Now - I want to be sure I understand - I copy ALL 7 files (including the PVReadme.htm file) over to the
folder where I unpacked the Pack & Go

Yeehaw!

Yup, that's correct. Well, actually, you don't really have to copy those
files anywhere. Just double-click on the pptview.exe file, then open
your unpacked presentation. I'm hoping those animations animate as they
should.

Yes, yes, YES! Everything is working great after moving the 7 files to the .pps. Thank you so much for hanging in
there with me.

woohoo! That's great news, JB. Thanks for letting us know.

Now, if you're going to create an autorun CD, we have a couple more
steps. If you just want to move everything to a CD to transport and are
okay with double-clicking the Viewer EXE on the CD to begin, then you're
good to go.

Since you're using Pack and Go in the first place, I figure there's
probably a reason...
