I am trying to add animation to charts that will allow me to individualize each column in the chart. For example can you have an individual column shrink, get larger, etc and not have the other columns move or even appear. I tried to selct the option that changes the chart from one object to something else but that option is greyed out

Any ideas??

Hi Michael,

which version of PowerPoint do you use? If your chart has been created in
PowerPoint (and not imported from Excel) and if you use PowerPoint 2002 or
2003 it is possible. You can use Triggers for that. Ungroup your chart and
see http://www.powerpointanswers.com/article1056.html for an excellent
tutorial on triggers.

Holler back if you need more help.

Kind regards,
Ute

It strikes me that depending on which version of PPT you are using there are
a lot of different options.
In 97 I would tackle this by creating duplicate slides of the chart and on
each slide amending the element that needs changing and then getting the
slide transition to do the work for me.
In 2002/3 depending on your background (complex or one colour) you can add
shaped overlays in the background colour that come and go.

Hi John,

every software program makes some progress in any new version. And in PPT
2002 the great leap forward was the increase in animation features.
Including that fantastic trigger feature! I don't know, why you want to
cover your objects with a shape in background color, thats a workaround
using PPT 97 technology. Once you have tried using triggers and got used to
them, you'll never need to construct overlays again. You just have your
object disappear by clicking on it.

If you or Michael can read some German, I could give you a link to a sample
presentation I made recently, which also shows an example for manipulating a
chart in independent order with triggers.

Kind regards,
Ute
