Hi,

I have very little knowledge in the PowerPoint area but would like to
attempt presentation. What I would like to do is have slides of an
electrical schematic. The first would be a drawing of just the components to
be wired and as the slides progress, lines (wires) would be connected to the
components gradually until the drawing is properly wired. I'm sure I can
just add each line (wire) to each drawing then present it in the next slide.
What I would like to do is show the line actually being drawn from the power
source to each component as the student views each slide. Is this possible
without having to learn VB? If so I would appreciate any help you may offer.

Thank you,
Ken Williams

"Yes, I believe this can be very easily done."
If you have a recent vervsion (I use 2002)
use "wipe" in custom animation.
e.g. you've set up two boxes using autoshape and then draw a line between them
select the line then click slideshow==>custom animation==>entrance
==>wipe if the line should go south to north then you;re ready, though
you might want to change the speed to say medium
if the line should go from north to south or east to west or west to east
select (under effects or that little box to the left near the top)
"from top", "from left:, or "from right." You might wonder - what if the line
goes SE to NW or something similar. IN that case EITHER "from bottom" or "from right" will work.
Curved lines aren't a real problem either.
You might leave the "start on click" in place so all the lines don't start jumping all over the
place all at once, or maybe "after previous" so they follow one after the other in sequence - but then I'd decrease the speed.
Hope this helps.

You can add an animation effect to each line, and then set the order in which the lines will appear.
Just draw the whole thing in one slide, right click the line you want to animate and click "custumize animation" or something like that (sorry, my Office is not in english). Then you can choose which effect you want, the direction of it (left to right, bottom to top) and when it will start (with a click of the mouse or x number of seconds after the last effect)

It's actually simpler than it might seem. Just turn around and walk through it
backwards. <g>

That is, start with a slide that has the fully revealed drawing. Then copy the
drawing to the previous slide and delete the bits that you want to have appear
when going from it to the last slide.

Then copy that drawing to the previous slide and ... you get the idea.

Finally, apply wipe slide transitions to the slides; for example if the missing
piece that appears on the next slide is a horizontal line, apply a wipe right
transition to the next slide. Since your drawing doesn't move, it'll look like
the newly added line is animating on.
