I wanted to run this concept past the experts before I went ahead and tried
it. I have ppt 2002 and not ppt 2003 (so no "copy effects to slide"
function). I have a master with some animation on it, but dont want to apply
it to every slide. Would it be possible to create an exact copy of the master
- except remove the animation, and then how do I apply that master to certain
slides?
Thanks

Odd. I thought that "copy effects to slide" was available in 2002 also.

Anyway, your idea to create another master is a good workaround. After you
create it, in Normal (editing) View, select the slides you want to apply it
to in the slides thumbnail pane on the left, then choose Slide Design from
the top of the taskpane on the right, click the arrow on the side of the 2nd
master and choose "apply to selected slides."

In addition to what Echo wrote: When in Master View, right-click on the
master and choose rename. Assign names to the master, so that you can easily
distinguish them. When applying the masters, you will see the name in a
yellow box when you hover over it. That makes it easier to distinguish the
two similar looking masters.

Best regards,
Ute
