Hello All !
I know that I can password protect a ppt file in 2002 & 2003.

Is there a way to hide the custom annimation detail so that viewers cannot
see how I have built my transitions

I want to distribute my 2002 ppt to non power point users

I am going to include the 2003 viewer. The presentation has a password on
the modify only selection.

If I select the read only, the file opens up, but I can still see how the
custom annimations are built

This is giving others the oppurtunity to replicate something in minutes when
I may have taken hours building

Has anyone got a workaround ?

Much like an author of a novel, if you don't want anyone to copy what you
have done, don't let them see it. On the other hand, if the book is written
in English and they don't know how to read or write English, is it really a
worry? You say that your audience is comprised of non-PowerPoint users and
they will be seeing the presentation in the Viewer, which won't allow them
to see the presentation in Normal View.

They can study how you've done things if they have PowerPoint and know how
to use it, but they can't copy your work unless you give them the password.
To protect it further you should convert it to a video file or Flash or some
other format.
