What is the consensus opinion for the "best" timeline where events
occur over about 24 months. I've used abutting line segments with
callouts to describe events at certain points, but the end result is
cluttered and the font sometimes too small to read.

Hi JBK,

How about splitting up the timeline over 3-4 slides? Perhaps 6 months of
info on each slide. You can extend the main timeline (line or graphic) to
the right edge of the first slide, and then use a Push Left transition to
"reveal" the next section.

This method will allow you to have larger callouts, and greater focus on
each section. If you'd like, you can follow up with the entire timeline on
one slide, omitting the details.

Best wishes,

If you play around with animation effects such as 'Crawl' you can use a
vertical timeline to great effect (overlapping lines a re a great help
here).

But this won't help if you need to print the result.
