Hi All,

I have written a report in Access which is exactly as l want it. However to
feed the information into another external database l need to Analyse with
MS Excel.

When viewing the data in Excel the following conversion errors occur :

3959D001 appears as 39590
3959D002 appears as 395900
3959D003 appears as 3959000
3959D001HQ appears as 3959D001HQ
3959D001ST appears as 3959D001ST

The field is a text field in Access and the cells in Excel are formatted as
general. Whatever format is used in Excel results in the same error.

When the data item ends in a numeric it appears to me that Excel is
interpreting the "D" as an operator and adding the apprpriate number of 0's

Anybody got any idea's because i'm really stumped.

All suggestions gratefully received.

You could try File - Export instead of Analyze with under
Tools.
I find Export works much better.
Good Luck....let us know!

Liz,

Thanks for the reply but had already tried that and get the same results.

I know now that the "D" is causing the problem because if l substitue it
with any other letter it works ok!
It would appear that Excel is recognising the D as some sort of operator.
Problem is that the Excel file is
imported into an Oracle database and the programmer has used a D and
re-programming would be a lot of work
and very costly.

Reading thru various threads & kb articles it would seem that unless the
workbook is a "microsoft excel workbook" rather than an Excel97 workbook
erratic behaviour can occur. Problem is that the same threads & kb articles
state that Excel 97 ALWAYS saves a workbook in Excel5 / 95 format !

Using Windows 98 & Excel 97 & Access 07

Any further ideas ?

Regards
