analogue and digital output to 22" monitor

hello all,
my viewsonic 22" widescreen monitor has a native resolution of
1680*1050..When connected using the digital ports it works but if i connect
to the analogue port using an analogue kvm i cant get the native
resolution..only 1600*1200,1024*768 etc..does this mean that these
widescreen resolutions can only be supplied by the digital port making my
kvm somewhat obsolete.

Must be a driver issue. Check for new driver.

I'd suggest that too, only:
FIRST try the analog port without the KVM switch in there.
If it works on analog directly connected, then it's the KVM.
If not, it's likely a driver issue.

I doubt it's the KVM.

ok ,I've tried analog without kvm and 1680*1050 is ok..Run it through the
kvm(only one system connected) and it dont work..can only get
1600*1200,1024*768 etc..so i guess the kvm is the culprit..bummer.have to
get a dvi kvm i suppose.

I have always considered analog output limits when buying a KVM. Just like a video card
purchase. If its an older model, then I would definitely figure its the KVM. So look at
your specs on the new one you buy.

crikey!!dvi kvms are a bit pricey..think i'll wait a while till dvi is more
mainstream.

Have you checked the max resolution of the KVM switch? Also, make sure
you select either a the right Viewsonic model or Default LCD 1680x1050
for the monitor.

I presume the max is 1600*1200 ..Its a Laser brand and their website doesn't
give specs for this model..I see the latest models goto 1900*1440 or
so..does that mean that any resolution below that is possible..

Yep. Like many things, newer cards and accessories handle newer
devices.

Yep, bet its limited to 1600x1200 which you can check the vga by
bypassing the KVM.

You can also search Google using the model# and manufacturer maybe you'll
come across a vendor who lists the product specifications.
