I have some analog tapes (Hi8) that I want to convert to
digital format on my PC. I also have a Mini-DV recorder
with an analog to digital converter. I attach the Hi8
camera to my mini-DV and then to the PC via firewire but
the Hi8 is not recognized. How do correct this?

Hello there,

I have recently converted three 3hr vhs tapes to DV-AVI. The way I did it is as
follows...

1) Plug SVHS lead from Panasonic into socket on Digital Canon.
2) Plug Firewire from Canon into PC
3) Make sure that there is no tape in Canon
4) Put Canon into Playback mode and ensure that the caption AV > DV is
displayed on Canon LCD
5) Plug Audio feed from Panasonic into LINE IN on sound card
6) Start recording using Movie Maker (MM will complain there is no
tape...ignore it)
7) Start playback on Panasonic

The quality was just excelent...I could not see any degrading of the
video...there must have been some, but it was to small for me to see it.

If for some reason the above process does not work for you then it may be that
it can't be done with your equipment
