I'm in the process of putting a movie together, but now I can't access any
other files in publisher that I have. I get an error "stating An error
occurred while opening this file. Either the selected file is not a Windows
Movie Maker project file or the project file is corrupted". How can I correct
it?

I am a bit confused.
What do you mean by publisher?
If you are referring to files from another program why would you try to open
them in Movie Maker by using File -> Open?
Are you simply trying to load some video clips into Movie Maker? Then use
File -> Import into Collections not File -> Open.
sorry if I am misunderstanding you but what you wrote doesn't make much
sense.

I have microsoft publisher program on my computer that i use mainly for
letters.I can turn on my computer in the morning without any other programs
running, go into microsoft publisher, go to file and open. When I select a
file to open, the computer takes me directly to windows movie maker and
displays the error. This happens on every microsft publisher file I have. I
am not trying to open a publisher file in windows movie maker. I hope this is
a little clearer.

If you right click on the file in windows explorer, do you see an "open
with" option? If so, what program is called for, MM?

I right clicked on a file going through windows explorer as you suggested.
The four options I had to open with was Microsoft Publisher, Windows Movie
Maker, Yahoo Brouser & Internet Eplorer. I was able to open the file with
Microsoft Publisher. Will this be the only way to open my publisher files
from now on? And if so how did it change?

Have a look at this article:

(307859) HOW TO: Change File Associations
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307859

More info:

Try this...open an image folder and right click one
of your image files...from the menu, select...Open
With / Choose Program.

Make your choice from the list or Browse to the
correct program if it is not in the list.

If you want the default...choose..."Windows
Picture and Fax viewer"

Once you make your selection...be sure to check
the box that says: "Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file". (you will need to do this
for each format....jpg, .tif, .gif...etc.)

Also...you can right click an image and choose
Properties / Change Button...choose the program
you wish to use and click...OK / Apply / OK.

Also...in WinXP, you can go to...My Computer /
Tools / Folder Options / File Types tab...

The program associated with that file extension changed. Sometimes other
programs cause this to happen and sometimes the user inadvertently does it
themselves. John's post should do the trick for you though.
