In Hp M370N, Ami Bios below the "Onboard Lan" (enabled by default), has option
"Onboard LAN Boot ROM" (disabled by default). I have looked for reason for this
option & found none. I need Onboard Lan enabled for plug going into cable modem
Enabling the next option seems to make no difference to any process. Does anyone
know its purpose?

This has nothing to do with the operating system. You should check in
the motherboard manual or do a search for AMI "Onboard LAN Boot ROM" on
Google.

A BOOT ROM is a special chip which allows the LAN card to start is there is
no operating system installed for it to use. This "seems" to be a left over
from the time where harddrives were expensive and company bought PCs without
hard drives. Since your are starting the PC with Windows, the BOOT ROM is
not needed.

That is to allow the machine to be (re) booted across a network - useful
in some business network situations, but not otherwise. It is not
needed for your purposes, and is better Off
