Amending Contacts

I am running Outlook XP and cannot add, delete or amend info in Contacts.
Dialogue box appears saying: "The messaging interface has returned an unknown
error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." Rebooting the PC does not
help. How should I proceed?

You can try "Detect and Repair function" of Office XP and there should
be link to launch this from Help menu bar.
