Hello,

I build new PCs for customers on occassions, and I have a costumer that
wishes to upgrade their PC using AMD's 4x4 motherboard solution (dual socket,
4 way). I'd like clarification regarding usage of Windows XP Home supporting
multi-socket platforms.

If a customer currently has WinXP Home, will it be required for customers to
purchase WinXP Pro in order to use multi-socketed motherboards? I'm
receiving conflicting answers elsewhere and was hoping someone here could
answer my question.

Thanks

XP Home supports one physical processor, regardless of the number of cores.
XP Pro supports up to two physical processors, regardless of the number of
cores.

http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/highlights/multicore.mspx

"Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the
number of cores on the processor. Microsoft Windows XP Home supports one
processor."

So, if your customer wants to use a machine with two physical processors,
they will have to upgrade to XP Pro.
