Hello, I'm new to this NG, can anyone tell me if an AMD XP2000+ will operate
on a 100mhz FSB? Specifically an Asus A7V BIOS 1011.
Yeah, I know it's an old board, money's tight ATM...

Thanx

This board officially supports up to 1400 (200fsb). The XP2000 is 266fsb
so the best you could expect is 1400 performance from the XP
2000 unless you overclock the board. If you overclock the board
there's a strong possibility of more problems than you need.

The cheap-n-sleazy ECS K7S5A boards seemed awfully prone when given
a 2000+ and DDR266 memory to mistake it as DDR200 and the processor
would happily hum along at 3/4 of the rated performance. In that
case, going into the bios and telling it to up the bus speed seemed
to work fine after that.

So I think that it is likely your old board will work fine,
just a little slower.

In short, yes. More info in link below.

The A7V only has a FSB of 100MHz and will take an AMD 1400MHz Thunderbird
CPU as maximum, if you can find one. They go for around £65 - £70 on ebay! A
better buy is a 1300MHz CPU which can be had for under £20 on ebay.

pay attention to the section " What is the fastest CPU that I can use in an
A7V Classic"

For XP processor support see
http://www.asus.com.tw/inside/Techref/images/athlon.gif

or go to ASUS site at
http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx
tick the box labeled "motherboard name" on the left,
choose "Socket A" in the type of motherboard,
then "A7V" in the motherboard model.

Duron support on these motherboards is limited to which revision of board
you have. To find out which revision motherboard you have look at the name
printed between the PCI slots and look for a dot at the end of the number,
if you don't have a dot then you are limited to the slower ones as per the
table.

The A7V will happily run any XP cpu.

More BS.
Who cares if they "support" it or not. The fact is that an XP will run in
an A7V.

The A7V with it's KT133 chipset will run the same CPU's as the board
below. See link for more info.

I seriously recommend ignoring this joker! It takes more than having a
compatible chipset to support a processor.

Even if you do get the 2000+ to run in this board it will run 25% slower
than it should due to the 100Mhz FSB. You could always try to unlock the
multiplier or overclock, but unless you're into PC building for fun as
opposed to simply getting a stable system, don't bother.

Fixed lazy asses top posted unedited message.

You are the worst of news group users. You come in and make serious
comments about things you obviously have no knowledge of.

That's why you change the multiplier. And you meed an unlocked cpu. You
just need to buy the proper one.

There are many cpu's that are already unlocked. You don't have to do
anything but plug them in and set the multiplier to up to 24x.

Now before you make any more stupid comments I suggest you actually read
the link below. If you don't understand it, I'll explain it for you. You
might also take note of all the updates, including the ones about locked
cpu's. Then do a few searches and you will find many people running XP's
in the A7V classic without problems.
