Amd X2 3800 but what ram to go with it ?

pc3200,4000,500 what one would be the best suited ?

I want to overlock. But have no idea how much i need to with this cpu.
I take it the multi is locked so the only way i can do it is with the
FSB.

And the hypertransport whatever.

An any help would be great. dont want to buy ram i wont be using fully
but i want some decent sytuff that will max my system out.

Thanks.

Yes.

You normally need to lower the HT multiplier when you overclock by more
than a small amount.

What you are dealing with is that the ram bus increases with the FSB, so
all you really need is ram fast enough to run when you choose the lowest
setting for it and then add the FSB increase to it. So PC3200 should be
fast enough in any case. The X2 3800 has a default setting of 10x200, so
changing the FSB to 240 would give you 2400MHz. You'd also need to lower
the HT multiplier from 5x to 4x, and lower the base ram bus to 166 to
account for the increase that increasing the FSB causes. Other than maybe
having to raise vcore, that's it in a nutshell. the only problem with this
is thqat the X2 has 2 cores pulling data from ram that doesn't have any
more bandwidth than a single core does. So you might want to consider some
really fast ram and leaving the ram bus as high as it'll go, although you
won't notice a lot of difference overall. So minimum PC3200, max ???.

First, listen to the good information and advice provided by Wes.
Then, make your purchase decision accordingly. I listened when I built my
A64 and got some PC4000 memory so as not to have to reduce my HT multiplier
or my base RAM bus speed, and I'm running my Winchester 3200+ at 2.5 GHz
with no issues (HT still at 1000 and RAM still at 200). So, use PC3200 and
make the adjustments or buy faster RAM.

ram at 250 you mean

Correctomundo on actual speed :)
I was referring to the BIOS setting Wes mentioned and I didn't make the
distinction clear.

HMM, my ocz pc3200 runs at 260mhz/ 260HTT what's the problem?

Better to research online... Most A64's work best with TCCD/TCC5 memory
which can be found in lots of memory. My OCZ 3200 runs MUCH better than my
previous Corsair PC4000pro.

Don't get sucked into the PC4000/4400 is best... find out what's under the
heat spreader before you purchase.

Now,let me ask something:what timings are you using at 250 mhz?
I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum(NF3 Ultra),A 64 3200+ Venice and 2x512 Kingston
Hyper-X 4300.Kingston says 266Mhz for it at 2.7V and 3-4-4-8/1T.
Unfortunately after trying a lot i found that i can run at 250 with these
timings but with 2T and 2.85V.At 1T system is unstable.

Setup:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Athlon 64 Venice 3200+@2,5Ghz
Tt Shark/Tagan TG 480 U22,480W
2*512MB Hyper-X PC4300
2*200GB Maxtor 6B200 sata,raid 0
2*Nec ND3540
Asus V9999 GE/softmoded 16x1,6Vp(425/1100)
SB Audigy
LG 1980Q TFT

260mhz 2.5, 3,7,3 2.90v
