AMD unveiled its most powerful member of the legendary AMD FX family of CPUs, the world’s first commercially available 5 GHz CPU processor, the AMD FX-9590. These 8-core CPUs deliver new levels of gaming and multimedia performance for desktop enthusiasts. AMD FX-9000 Series CPUs will be available initially in PCs through system integrators.

... looking good, but you won't be able to buy one just yet, you have to buy a 'branded' system. rats.

But will it be AM3+ compatible? :D

That's the big question innit? The article linked to doesn't mention it.

The other big question, of course, is whether AMD's speed will equate or surpass Intel's performance.

Watch this page :)

It's a "production first boast" on the speed it can achieve ... you won't get one ... OEM manufacturers will see the first batches, and, I suspect will have to adhere to a very tight criteria of hardware to achieve the potential 5GHz.

If you're a gamer, Intel's iPHone, err, i7 is still king of the hill. :)

plus, not many games know what a quad core is, nevermind using 8 cores.
