Can anyone suggest a good site for AMD processors? I am looking to get specs
on the one that is in one of my computers. It is a socket 7 AMD K6-2 and I
am also looking to see if I can get a faster one for this MB. Any info is
greatly appreciated.

I did the google search and I really don't have the time at the moment to
sort through 125,000 results to find the info I need. I went to the AMD home
page and figured that it would be quicker to find the info from people who
have already done it themselves. Or maybe someone would know off the top of
their head. Makes it a bit quicker, especially when I don't have alot of
spare time right now.

The current is running at 500mhz.

There is no worthwhile upgrade then...

K6-2 went up to at least 533Mhz, "maybe" 550MHz, but no higher.
If your motherboard is a SUPER socket 7 (supports 100MHz FSB, AGP slot or
AGP ported integrated video without the slot) then you might be able to
run a K6-3 (went up to 450MHz). In some uses it'd be about the same
performance level as your K6-2/500 but in other uses (like SETI) the extra
cache should make a large difference. Overall these performance
differences are very slight compared to newer platforms, CPUs. Today's
$30 Duron will run circles around any Socket 7 chip.

Obviously you don't have much time. You didn't even tell us how fast your
exisisting CPU is, nor what model and revision your motherboard is. We can't
tell you shit without that information.

Obviously you haven't read my other response to Pen. Once asked, I did say
what it was. 500mhz. But, as for the MB, it is a spacewalker SiS-530
revision 3. Also, the BIOS is Award, Version 4.51 PG, if that is of any
help.

Thank you for your response. That is basically the info I was looking for. I
upgraded from ME to XP with this machine, I have 312mb of ram and it just
don't seem to be running very well. Although, alot of that could be the Hard
Drive, because I just realized that I never checked what speed that is. I
guess that is my next step. Thanks again.

P.S. It is nice to have people that are willing to share some of their
knowledge without being rude.

Delete all yer Temporary Internet stuff...compact OE folders...do a
defrag...optimize yer registry.

I'm running a k6-2 on one of my bench machines. Still runs good.

Depending on yer computer habits, you might see quite a speed increase
if you get the 10,000 rpm Raptor. You'll need a controller, of
course.

Good luck.

Have a nice week...

You haven't said how fast the one is you have but they go up to 550 MHZ and
the board would be a Super Socket seven which is out of production for a few
years now. There might be some discount website that sells them but you can
buy whole systems that are faster for the price that the processor used to
cost and you can get faster MB processor combos for next to nothing at
places like Computer Surplus Outlet and Computer Geeks.

Actually, in one of my previous posts, I did mention that it is running at
500mhz. I was mainly concerned with the speed of this machine in particular
and if there was a faster processor that could be put into it or if this one
was topped out.
