| Thank you Jeff for your very useful and helpful information
| the Mother baord is QDI Kinetiz 7E
| I very much doubt I removed any jumpers as the only thing i took out was
the
| fan and the CPU. Reseated and added the fan.
|
| I have looked in the bios and cannot see anything that has changed,
| Would I have inadvertantly damaged the CPU? If so, would it have changed
the

Hi Glenn -
Your motherboard manual is listed on the following page:
http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/support/manual_e.htm
To find your manual from the long list, look for "Kinetiz 7E" in the list of
available files. Download your manual and unzip it onto your hard disk.
I found this link by inserting "QDI Kinetiz 7E" into Google. First link
returned was the model page for your motherboard. On that page was a button
to click for the above link for the manual download page.
Upon reading your motherboard manual, I find that your board will
automatically detect the Front Side Bus and multiplier for a Locked
processor (i.e., one which was manufactured by AMD as "locked" to a
particular frequency and hasn't been unlocked by some method of modifying
the traces on the top of it).
It's likely that you need to go into your BIOS and tell it to automatically
detect your processor.
Turn on your system and press the DEL key on your keyboard repeatedly
immediately upon starting. This should trigger the BIOS opening up the
startup menu.
On the main startup menu, use your arrow keys to navigate to "LOAD OPTIMIZED
DEFAULTS" then go through the other menus and see that everything is
detected and set up properly. DO NOT make changes to items that you don't
understand.... if you're confused, take your computer into a computer shop
and have it set up properly! In any event, when everything is set up,
navigate to SAVE AND EXIT.
