I have an A7V 333 mb with an XP 1800+

My son has an A7V with Athlon 800 and he wants to upgrade his
processor.

According to Asus website, with proper bios revision, his A7V mb can
support up to Athlon 1400 (200 FSB) which we can purchase for $89.00.

My A7V 333 mb can support up to XP 2600+ which I can purchase for
$95.00.

My question is, if I purchase the XP 2600+ and install on my system,
can I take my existing XP 1800+ and install on his A7V system and just
run at a slower speed? Will this work, or is there something I am not
considering?

Thanks for any advice.

Which A7v is it? There are lots of revisions. Also in case it is a
A7v133 1.05. (with dot) then you got a good chance, try it and see, in
both non-jumper & jumper modes.

Don`t quote me but I think the Duron 1000 through to 1300 did not work in
boards that said they supported these chips. I was told it was because these
chips used the T Bird core or some such and the boards that used the Durons
up to 950 would not run the 1000s and higher.
If this is the case then I guess AMD had an excess of T Bird chips and they
chopped them just to get rid of them.
