Hi

Anybody out there running an Athlon64-mobo-high end video card combo?

Are you happy with the results? What motherboard are you using?

Why wouldn't they be :) It beats all other cpus easily in gaming.

I have an Asus 9800XT with an Athlon64 3000+ and a MSI K8T Neo. I upgraded
from an Abit NF7s v 2.0 and a 2800 Barton.
My 3DMark2001 score went from 18,000
to 20,600. I am very impressed and it works great in all my games.

I'm considering such an upgrade eventually as I too have almost the same rig
except I run an Asus A7N8X-D with a Barton 2800+ @2.3GHz(11.5x200), but
frankly going form 18k to 20k isn't all that earth shattering IMHO. I may
wait it out for the PCI-Xpress boards, and socket 939 products where things
should get quite interesting at that point, just my .02 ...

Went from 2400+ and Radeon 9800 non-pro to same card and Athlon 3000+ and
MSI Neo board.

So far, quite impressed but am awaiting some very fast memory. I recommend
the Athlon 64 to ANYONE. Unreal 2k certainly zips past with all options on.
Far in advance to the 2400+.

On another note: Built a 64 3000+ for work on the MSI neo board and for
some reason the PC logs into the network in an instant. Less than 1 second
log on and 1 second off. No other PC in the whole building can do this.
Everyone is perplexed why? Amazing machine.

Quite annoyed that I dove straight in and purchased a 9800 non-pro before
Xmas thinking that Valve would ship Halflife 2. That was NEVER going to
happen. Dammit.

LOL, and you call THAT impressive? A whopping 14% increase?

You know how these youngsters are, getting all hyped up about an almost
undetectable change.

Maturity is realising the money spent should also be factored into the picture
