The processor they're using, has a socket with 1974 contacts.
With a plan to put up to four of those sockets on a motherboard,
the motherboard must be the size of a football field.

Mehlville Services, a service provider based in St Louis, Missouri, has
put four of the Socket G34 processors up for sale for $7,700 - or just
under £5,000. The Opteron 6174 chips that Oakville Mehlville has put up
for sale run at 2.2 GHz.

6 core 3.33 GHz Intel Xeon X5680 http://blogs.amd.com/work/tag/12-cores/

More performance less cost less watts.

Here is a picture of a quad socket G34 motherboard.
It's got 32 DIMM sockets on it. I can see why the CPU socket
is rectangular - it makes positioning the DIMMs easier :-)
